JA New York: How long have you been a jewelry designer?
Alexandra LaValley for Alexandra Gunn Designs: I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. My first love was painting and drawing which quickly expanded into sculpture, and fashion design. I have been exploring jewelry design for the last several years, learning techniques and discovering new methods. Ultimately, this exploration has resulted in my first collection – The Wave and Splash Collection.
JA New York: What inspires your designs?
AL: I am constantly inspired by nature, movement, organic shapes, texture, and asymmetry. I delight in designing for the eye – I strive to take your eyes on a journey over, up, down, and around, bringing flow and texture to life.
I also love classic silhouettes, lines, and timeless pieces. I strive to blend my love of these different concepts together to develop timeless pieces forged in sterling silver and 14K gold and set with semi-precious stones.
JA New York: What are you most looking forward to about exhibiting in the New Designer Gallery?
AL: It has been a long journey to get to my first collection – testing and experimenting with stones, metals, different techniques, and design aesthetics. I am looking forward to being a part of this great show and sharing The Wave and Splash Collection!
JA New York: If a song played every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
AL: “Happy” by Pharrell Williams because I am a very positive person.
JA New York: If you were forced to get a tattoo, what would it be and where?
AL: As I love movement and asymmetry, I would imagine I would get a free-flowing design that danced on my shoulder and flirted with my mid-back. It would feature an inspirational word or collection of words such as “dream” or “carpe diem.”
